THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:
...with THE B-52s! The quirky combo from Athens, GA, has had a long and storied career, but we'll stick to the early stuff this weekend. So, from the self-titled debut, classics "Planet Claire," "Rock Lobster," "Lava," and "Dance This Mess Around." And from the sophomore LP, Wild Planet, "Party Out of Bounds," "Give Me Back My Man", "Private Idaho" and "Dirty Back Road." BONUS: "Song For A Future Generation," because it's the first song I heard them play live. DOUBLE BONUS: "Deadbeat Club," because get off my lawn. JENNY LEWIS visits KEXP. LOCAL NATIVES visits KEXP. MIKAL CRONIN covers The Replacements, Natalie Imbruglia, and Blaze Foley for a Lagniappe Session. EX HEX shares a new one, "It's Real," and a cover of Slant 6's "What Kind Of Monster Are You?" BELLE & SEBASTIAN share "This Letter." LANA DEL REY & JACK ANTONOFF go unplugged on her latest title track.
OF MONTREAL back actor Paul Rudd and actor-director David Wain on Boston's classic "More Than A Feeling." SHELVED: Jimi Hendrix's Black Gold Suite. MORE THAN KEEPING TIME: A Melodic Drumming Demo. BANANARAMA talk to PopMatters about their first album in a decade. THE NUMBER ONES looks at Diana Ross' sex-dazed disco masterpiece, "Love Hangover."
IT: CHAPTER TWO is this weekend's sole wide release, currently scoring 67 percent on the ol' Tomatometer. KEVIN HART suffered three spinal fractures in that car crash. BRITNEY SPEARS' father Jamie got into an alleged physical altercation with her 13-year-old son on Aug. 24 . ALEC BALDWIN and his wife Hilaria are expecting their fifth child. BOB NEWHART on His Secretly Sick Humor and Turning 90. BRUCE DERN on meeting 'fragile' Marilyn Monroe and why he won't retire. ROBERT DOWNEY JR may not be done with the MCU.
DOG & CROW, living together... mass hysteria. DOG & HORSE, living together... well, you know. A CAT performs CPR on a friend. A TWO-HEADED RATTLESNAKE was found in New Jersey. The snake has two brains and each head acts independently of the other.

EARTH WIND & FIRE: The fish, the barrel, the smoking gun. NEW RELEASES: Pitchfork can point you to Lana Del Rey, Whitney, Joan Shelley, and more. Stereogum can direct you to the first Tool in 13 years. NIRVANA's 1993 MTV concert film, Live and Loud, is on the Tube and streaming services now. THE PERNICE BROTHERS share three songs from their first LP in nine years. NOEL GALLAGHER & PAUL WELLER play "A Town Called Mallice" and "All You Neeed Is Love" for Twofer Tuesday. THE HOLD STEADY finds new success tweaking their recording and touring habits for the streaming era. And “Toolmaster of Brainerd”makes a cameo. PETER HOOK: The bassist of Joy Division and New Order doesn’t buy into the idea that the bass player is the quiet one. TRENT REZNOR finally acknowledged "Old Town Road," the record-breaking No. 1 hit that sampled an obscure old Nine Inch Nails song. THE NUMBER ONES looks at "Welcome Back," former Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian's theme music from the hit sitcom 'Welcome Back, Kotter,' and the Bellamy Brothers' "Let Your Love Flow," the Neil Diamond reject that helped turn two Florida brothers into country stars.
WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Angel Has Fallen repeats atop the chart with 14.8MM, which was pretty much destined during the traditionally dead Labor Day Weekend. It may or may not have recouped itsbproduction budget (depending on which estimate you believe), and there aren't overseas numbers yet to determine the fateof this franchise. Good Boys places with 12.1MM and looks like a solid late summer hit, perhaps a bit surprising for an R-rated comedy. The Lion King shows with another 9.3MM as it cruises past 1.5billion worldwide. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw takes the fourth slot with 8.2MM, but the real story is the near 100MM taken in from China over the past week. Overcomer rounds out the Top Five with 7.8MM and a 19MM total against a 5MM production budget for the faith-based drama. VALERIE HARPER, who parlayed a sidekick role as the leading lady’s unprepossessing best friend on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” into a star turn of her own in the hit sitcom “Rhoda,” died on Friday. She was 80. KEVIN HART is recovering from “major back injuries” after his vintage Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road and crashed into a ditch. ELLIE GOULDING married her longtime boyfriend, art dealer Caspar Jopling, Saturday in North Yorkshire, England. MILES TELLER tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Keleigh Sperry, over the weekend in Hawaii. ZENDAYA and her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi? BUTCH CASSIDY & THE SUNDANCE KID: Aaron Sorkin joins a Ringer podcast revisiting the 1969 classic. ICYMI you have to make sure you hug your baby goats to keep them happy and healthy. CALVES, thinking they have to jump over the white line. WAFFLES is a six-year-old miniature horse. His best friend is a goose named Hemingway. They're up for a package adoption. DOGS will fix our broken democracy.

THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND STARTS HERE:
...with CHEAP TRICK, live at ChicagoFest '81! Can you honestly tell me you forgot? Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen? Your set list includes: "Stop This Game," Hello There," "I Want You to Want Me," "On Top of the World," "Reach Out," "Baby Loves to Rock," "Gonna Raise Hell," "Dream Police," "Ain't That a Shame," "Surrender," "Just Got Back," "Day Tripper" and "Goodnight." You can access the individual songs from the link, or let the whole thing roll. TELEKINESIS visits KEXP. MAC DeMARCO visits KEXP. ALL SONGS CONSIDERED offers 31 Bittersweet Bops For Summer's End. CHRISSIE HYNDE covers The Kinks' "No Return." VETIVER shares "To Who Knows Where."
FIRST CLASS: "Beach Baby" may fall into that category of summer song Oliver Wang once described "tinged with fragility and marked by melancholy." It's even more true of the long version, with those French Horns and choral vocals in the c-section. LET'S DANCE: Nile Rodgers takes us behind the scenes of the Bowie hit. TY SEGALL on Going Guitar-Less, Performing Multi-Night Residencies. BEN FOLDS on "Brick," William Shatner and hitting rock bottom. THE NUMBER ONES looks at Johnnie Taylor's P-Funk-adjacent soul jam "Disco Lady," which is not actually a disco song.
NOW SHOWING: Labor Day is usually one of the worst box office weekends of the year, so it's no surprise that Saaho, whichwas not screened for critics, is this weekend's sole wide release. Opening near-wide are Don't Let Go, scoring 52 percent on the ol' Tomatometer, and Bennett's War, which was not screened for critics. TERMINATOR: DARK FATE has an official trailer. MATTHEW McCONNAUGHEY has been appointed as a professor of practice at the Moody College of Communication. CHRISTIAN SLATER and his wife of five years, Brittany, just welcomed their first child together. BRAD PITT calls Ad Astra a personal film that to some extent deals with the modern concept of masculinity. THE FLASH will be directed by Andy Muschietti (IT Chapter Two). ALEX TREBEK is back at work taping the new season of "Jeopardy!," five months after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. JOHN TRAVOLTA: What Happened? PEANUTS: Charles Schulz's kid characters are precocious and cruel. They're also among the most compelling in children's literature.
KIDS ARE GREAT... but have you ever had an apple? THIS DOG CONVERSATION is an old classic, but still funny. CATS, walking the beach. A NEW SPECIES OF BLOOD-SUCKING LEECH, with up to 59 teeth, was found in Washington DC. Obviously.
