WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Paranormal Activity 3 haunted the cineplex, scaring up 54 million bucks -- the biggest October debut ever and the biggest horror opening ever, with another 26 million overseas, all against a 5 million budget. Real Steel is a distant second with 11.3 million and a 67.2 million total against a 150 million budget, hoping for breakeven overseas. The Footloose remake is No. 3 with 10.9 million and a 30.8 million total against a 24 million budget. The Three Musketeers dubuts in fourth place with 8.8 million against a 90 million budget (that sounds awful, but the overseas sales so far are about 64 million, so this won't be a total disaster financially). The Ides of March rounds out the Top 5 with 4.9 million and 29 million so far against a 12.5 million budget. Below the fold, Johnny English Reborn opened at No. 8 with 3.8 million against a 45 million budget -- but this one has already grossed over $100 million overseas. Meanwhile Gaddafi may have stashed 200 billion in bank accounts, real estate and corporate investments around the world before he was killed. AFGHANISTAN: Pres Karzai said he would side with Pakistan in the event of war with the US in a surprising political twist that is likely to disconcert his western allies. IRAQ: Pres. Obama's speech formally declaring that the last US troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year was designed to mask an unpleasant truth: The troops aren't being withdrawn because the US wants them out. They're leaving because the Iraqi government refused to let them stay. Meanwhile, regular Iraqis fretted about the ability of their armed forces to protect them from violence after the US leaves. A DOG and a proposal. GENETICALLY MODIFIED PIGS could be suppying human transplant organs within two years. Are we not men? VAMPIRE MOTHS discovered in Siberia.
