NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which is currently scoring 97 percent on th ol' Tomatometer; and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which is scoring 89 percent. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, the sixth installment of the franchise, plays as a bit of a sequel to its predecessor, Rogue Nation. It suffers a little by comparison, but not too much. It lacks set pieces with the distinctiveness of the last one.Yet just about the time I was wondering whether I was going to be disappointed, the second act gives you a terrific car / motorcyle chase, the plot twists several times over, and the stakes get raised on a personal level. Also, Tom Cruise runs-- really fast, for a long time, as he does. For such a star vehicle, however, Cruise is smart enough to know it's really about the team, with most everyone in the cast gets a good moment or two along the way. And I'm pretty sure that one of the characters is a callback of sorts to the very first of these films in a subtle way.
