WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Mission: Impossible - Fallout easily tops the chart with 61.5MM, and it may surprise some to learn that this is the best debut of the entire franchise. Mamma Mia: here We Go Again! places again with 15MM on a 57 percent drop (the original dropped only 36 percent in its second frame).  The Equalizer 2 shows with 14MM on an even larger 61 percent drop, an obvious victim of the Tom Cruise machine. Hotel Transylvania 3 takes fourth with another 12.3MM and it now starts to look like the stronger summer weekday numbers aren't carrying over to the weekends. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies rounds out the Top Five with 10.5MM against a 10MM budget.

VAL CAMILLETTI, who ran one of the great Chicagoland record stores, died in hospice care early Tuesday at the British Home in Brookfield, about two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 78.

THE NUMBER ONES looks at the Supremes' gloriously formulaic "Stop! In The Name Of Love."

NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which is currently scoring 97 percent on th ol' Tomatometer; and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which is scoring 89 percent.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, the sixth installment of the franchise, plays as a bit of a sequel to its predecessor, Rogue Nation. It suffers a little by comparison, but not too much. It lacks set pieces with the distinctiveness of the last one.Yet just about the time I was wondering whether I was going to be disappointed, the second act gives you a terrific car / motorcyle chase, the plot twists several times over, and the stakes get raised on a personal level. Also, Tom Cruise runs-- really fast, for a long time, as he does.  For such a star vehicle, however, Cruise is smart enough to know it's really about the team, with most everyone in the cast gets a good moment or two along the way. And I'm pretty sure that one of the characters is a callback of sorts to the very first of these films in a subtle way.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS secretly wed indie rocker Phil Elverum (Mt Eerie) earlier this month.

RIAN JOHNSON: The Last Jedi director deletes 20K tweets. Conspiracy theorists pondered whether he had anything to hide, and if Disney had issued instructions to its directing stable to cover up their social media histories.

SARAH SILVERMAN gets dinged for a 2009 tweet.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS: Elizabeth Banks will direct Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska in the reboot. Banks will play Bosley.

METOO: A survey of more than 2000 Writers Guild of America West members found that 64 percent of female writers have experienced sexual harassment sometime in their careers.

DEMI LOVATO's team tried to stage an intervention and get her help for her drug addiction, but the singer blew them off.

ADDICTION, DEPRESSION & SELF-HATRED: Inside Artie Lange's last chance.

POSSIBLY THE WORLD'S LARGEST GREAT WHITE turns up for Shark Week. What say you, Police Chief Brody?
