BUSY WEEKEND. But I have a few things, mostly this very sad news:

CHARLES BRADLEY, the acclaimed soul singer and exuberant live performer who saw his career ascend late in life, died Saturday following a bout with stomach and liver cancer. He was 68. The Guardian obit is also good, as is this 2014 interview with Noisey including Bradley's general view of humanity.  Pitchfork rounds up seven great song performances, while NPR re-upped his 2016 SXSW performance at Stubb's.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Kingsman: The Golden Circle topped the chart with 39MM -- a few million better than the original, probably several million less than where the gurus projected.  The foreign grossses were 51MM, taking the sequel past the 100MM overall.  The former champ, It, placed with 30MM on a 50 percent drop that's dang leggy for a third frame in the horror genre.  The clown show has already pulled in 266.3MM domestic against a 35MM budget.  The LEGO Ninjago Movie showed with 21.2MM, substantially below the prior movies in this cinematic universe; the stakes will be higher for the proper sequel to The LEGO MovieAmerican Assassin slid 58 percent to the fourth slot with 6.3MM (Lionsgate will have been glad to have sold off the overseas rights).  Home Again rounded out the Top Five with 3.3MM.

ISLE OF DOGS, the next film from Wes Anderson, has a trailer online.

KYLIE JENNER reportedly is pregnant.

I SHOULD BE BACK to full strength tomorrow.

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:

... with THE BYRDS! To everything there is a season, and when the leaves start turning, my thoughts turn to this rare live threefer of "Turn! Turn! Turn!", "Bells of Rhymney" and "Mr. Tambourine Man", introduced by... David McCallum? There are more screaming girls, plus go-go dancers when they hit Shivaree for "All I Really Want to Do" and "Feel A Whole Lot Better."  There are even more dancers when they cover "Not Fade Away" for Shindig! on June 23, 1965, while I'm pretty sure that's Ed Wynn introducing "Chimes of Freedom."

DAVID CROSBY advance streams Sky Trails.

JESSICA LEA MAYFIELD advance streams Sorry Is Gone.

LONEY DEAR advance streams a self-titled LP.

YOUNG JESUS streams a self-titled LP.

MAGGIE ROGERS shares "Split Stones."

THE NATIONAL: A band of brothers...but not like Oasis.

MARILYN MANSON blames the Columbine shooting for wrecking his career.

AFGHAN WHIGS: Greg Dulli on loving Minneapolis, losing a friend, and getting the band back together.

JUDY COLLINS & STEPHEN STILLS: Judy talks about that song; you know the one.

NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which is currently scoring 47 percent on the ol' Tomatometer; Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which is scoring 49 percent; and Friend Request, scoring 29 percent. Could be some competition for the top slot.

ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL gets probation instead of detention.

IT: Bill Skarsgård talks to NME about his clown show.

WATCHMEN is moving forward at HBO with a pilot order.

WONDER WOMAN may rescue The Flash.

GLASS: Unbreakable actors are returning for the sequel. (Spoiler Warning)

AUDRINA PARTRIDGE is divorcing her husband of less than a year, on the heels of running to court to get protection from him.

A KANGAROO on the loose in Kenosha.
