THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:

...with THIN LIZZY! Remember that chick who used to dance a lot? Here's Phil Lynott & Co. live at the Sydney Opera House in 1978, playing "Jailbreak," "Bad Reputation," "Cowboy Song," "The Boys Are Back In Town," "Waiting For An Alibi," and "Are You Ready?"

TONY MOLINA streams Kill the Lights.

LUCERO advance streams Among the Ghosts.

AMANDA SHIRES advance streams To the Sunset.

SHEMEKIA COPELAND advance streams America's Child.

CALVIN JOHNSON shares "Kiss Me Sweetly," ft. his fiancee Michelle Branch.

LORETTA LYNN covers Roger Miller's "Half A Mind."

AEROSMITH: "Train Kept A-Rollin'" At least until Midnight.

THE 2018 MERCURY PRIZE nominees are announced.

FETCH: Nine British acts that America never understood.

VAL CAMILLETTI, who ran one of the great Chicagoland record stores, died in hospice care early Tuesday at the British Home in Brookfield, about two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 78.

THE NUMBER ONES looks at the Supremes' gloriously formulaic "Stop! In The Name Of Love."

NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which is currently scoring 97 percent on th ol' Tomatometer; and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which is scoring 89 percent.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, the sixth installment of the franchise, plays as a bit of a sequel to its predecessor, Rogue Nation. It suffers a little by comparison, but not too much. It lacks set pieces with the distinctiveness of the last one.Yet just about the time I was wondering whether I was going to be disappointed, the second act gives you a terrific car / motorcyle chase, the plot twists several times over, and the stakes get raised on a personal level. Also, Tom Cruise runs-- really fast, for a long time, as he does.  For such a star vehicle, however, Cruise is smart enough to know it's really about the team, with most everyone in the cast gets a good moment or two along the way. And I'm pretty sure that one of the characters is a callback of sorts to the very first of these films in a subtle way.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS secretly wed indie rocker Phil Elverum (Mt Eerie) earlier this month.

RIAN JOHNSON: The Last Jedi director deletes 20K tweets. Conspiracy theorists pondered whether he had anything to hide, and if Disney had issued instructions to its directing stable to cover up their social media histories.

SARAH SILVERMAN gets dinged for a 2009 tweet.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS: Elizabeth Banks will direct Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska in the reboot. Banks will play Bosley.

METOO: A survey of more than 2000 Writers Guild of America West members found that 64 percent of female writers have experienced sexual harassment sometime in their careers.

DEMI LOVATO's team tried to stage an intervention and get her help for her drug addiction, but the singer blew them off.

ADDICTION, DEPRESSION & SELF-HATRED: Inside Artie Lange's last chance.

POSSIBLY THE WORLD'S LARGEST GREAT WHITE turns up for Shark Week. What say you, Police Chief Brody?

COLORADO MAN spots four mountain lions on his porch, as one does in CO.

ZOO accused of painting donkeys to look like zebras.

A BORDER COLLIE wins the "In My Feelings" challenge. At least, I think so.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: The Equalizer 2 tops the chart with 35.8MM, just a shade better than the original, but continuing proof of Denzel Washington's remarkable consistency as a box office draw: he's rarely in a flop or a blockbuster. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! placed with 34.4MM, well ahead of the original but perhaps less than expected, given how leggy the original was. Hotel Transylvania 3 showed with 23.1MM on a 49 percent drop larger than its predecessors, but this installment is doing as well or better (as predicted) on stronger weekday numbers during the Summer. Ant-Man and the Wasp took the fourth slot with 16.1MM on a 45 percent drop and seems likely to match the original's gross by next weekend. Incredibles 2 rounded out the Top Five with another 11.5M, but looks unlikely to reach 600MM.
