THE MOUNTAIN GOATS, Unplugged at SPIN. Four songs, including one of my faves, "Dance Music."

TEDDY THOMPSON stopped by for a session at Morning Becomes Eclectic.

TV ON THE RADIO is advance streaming Nine Types of Light.

NELLIE McKAY played a Tiny Desk Concert at the offices of NPR.

HOLY GHOST! is advance streaming their self-titled debut.

NIRVANA: Kurt Cobain died 17 years ago yesterday, and of the many things I saw posted about it, my fave was this early clip of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," mostly due to the awful set.

THE RAVEONETTES talk to the Boston Globe about the recording and themes of their new album, along with the rise in girl groups.

ANNA CALVI talks to The Independent about her influences and her fans in the fashion world.

PJ HARVEY talks to the Sydney Morning Herald about history repeating.

KINGS OF LEON get an apology of sorts from Glee creator Ryan Murphy. Apparently, demanding that other artists kowtow to your political agenda and fill your bank account was a bad choice. Who knew?

ROBERT PATTINSON & KRISTEN STEWART are reportedly on a break? Studio sources deny it.

ANGELINA JOLIE made a humanitarian visit to the Tunisian-Libyan border, where she spoke with refugees.

ASHLEY JUDD has detailed her childhood years filled with lies, pain and sexual abuse in a shocking memoir dropping tomorrow.

CHARLIE SHEEN is now Twitter friends with... Miley Cyrus?

SEAN PARKER, Napster and Facebook pioneer, is engaged.

VINCE NEIL: The Motley Crue frontman has been charged with domestic violence and disorderly conduct for allegedly striking his ex-GF in the chest with his finger in Vegas last month.

YEMEN: The spokesman for the anti-Saleh Joint Meeting Parties said a new government would oppose al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Let's hope so: counterterrorism operations in Yemen have ground to a halt, allowing Al Qaeda's deadliest branch outside of Pakistan to operate more freely inside the country and to increase plotting for possible attacks against Europe and the United States, American diplomats, intelligence analysts and counterterrorism officials say.

EGYPT: The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said that it would not permit an Iranian-styled theocracy such as the one in Iran.

LIBYA: The rebel leadership rejected peace overtures from Gaddafi's sons.

AFGHANISTAN: In the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand province, coalition forces are not declaring victory - but they are saying they have defeated the insurgents. Outside the main insurgent provinces (Helmand and Kandahar) there has been some growth in violence, which is why the national picture does not show quite the same trend as that in those two centers of insurgency.

TAKE THE "A" TRAIN, just like this large rat.

IT'S RAINING WORMS in Scotland. Now will you let the people go?

MYSTERY CREATURE: Is it a dog? A turtle? A pig?

IRWIN the KANGAROO is chauffeured around town, likes to wear a suit and sleeps in a comfortable bed.

OKKERVIL RIVER's latest video is "Wake and Be Fine."

NEW RELEASES from the Raveonettes, Smithereens, Submarines, the Kills, Ha Ha Tonka, Timbre Timbre, REM and more are streaming this week via Spinner. And hey, the new Britney Spears LP is over at AOL. ZOMG!

BEST COAST did six free songs for Daytrotter, all drawn from the band's short-run EPs, not their Crazy For You LP.

JUNIP did three free songs for Daytrotter.

THE RAMONES: Live at New York City's Palladium, January 7, 1978. 26 songs in 54 minutes, all set to a series of cheap sci-fi movie trailers.

JACKIE DeSHANNON: "What the World Needs Now" and "When You Walk In the Room" for Twofer Tuesday.

ALISON KRAUSS talks to the Telegraph about covering Richard Thompson's "Dimming Of The Day" and others on her new LP, Paper Airplane, which is advance streaming now.

TELEKINESIS: Michael Benjamin Lerner talks to The A.V. Club and Straight.com about his favorite breakup albums, being a singing drummer, and the genius of Phil Collins. (Thx, Chromewaves)

HA HA TONKA: Lennon Bone answered PopMatters' famed 20 Questions, discussing why he'll never watch Marley & Me, why the band made fart sounds at B.B. King's club, and what makes Steve Reich one of his favorite musicians of all time...

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE & OLIVIA WILDE (co-starring inThe Now) looked cozy at the Roxbury over the weekend, but it may have been just friendly.

CHARLIE SHEEN's Chicago show was reportedly a definite improvement over Detroit.

REESE WITHERSPOON: Wedding Pics.

KATIE COURIC is leaving her anchor post at "CBS Evening News," and the coverage almost always plays down how awful the ratings were.  The media is never very tough on the media.

LINDSAY LOHAN may play a villain in the Superman reboot.

GREEN LANTERN: The Wondercon footage was obviously intended to tell comic fans that the pic is not being played entirely for laughs.

YEMEN: Security forces and supporters of Pres. Saleh killed 15 people and wounded more than 300 in attacks on protesters in Taiz and Hudaida. The US is pushing for Saleh's removal from power.

BAHRAIN: The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council denounced Iran for its "continuing interference" in the region.

LIBYA: Rebel forces have failed to retake the town of Brega after four days of fighting. The rebels' ad hoc government and military council is showing signs of strain after suffering military losses.

20 ALL-TIME GREAT CHICAGO GUITARISTS, courtesy of the Illinois Entertainer.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Hop tops the pops with 38.1 million against a 63 million budget... and stands a decent chance of making money through Easter, despite generally bad reviews.  Source Code placed with 15 million, which seems a bit soft, though ultimately fine against a 32 million budget.  Insidious showed with 13.5 million, against a mere 1.5 million budget. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, facing competition from Hop, tumbled 57 percent to the fourth slot with 10.2 million, but it should be profitable with a 38 million total to date against a 21 million budget.  Limitless, facing competition from Source Code, held decently, rounding out the Top Five with 9.4 million.  Below the fold, Sucker Punch plummeted 68 percent in its second weekend and looks doomed in North America. Ouch.

PAKISTAN: Successive, yet unsuccessful assassination attempts on Maulana Fazl ur Rehman of the group Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl show Islamic militants' growing disdain for even sympathetic political leaders. But the government has proved powerless to stem the tide of radicalization.

LIBYA: Gaddafi loyalists continued to pound rebel fighters in the key oil hub of Brega, a town that had been claimed by anti-government forces less than a week ago. Yet, despite repeated setbacks in recent days, intelligence assessments suggest that the rebels, with continuing NATO air support, are capable now of maintaining control of strongholds such as Benghazi as well as key oil fields in eastern Libya. Is a stalemate in the offing? Or might Gaddafi exit some other wayTwo former Afghan Mujahedeen and a six-year detainee at Guantanamo Bay have stepped to the fore of the rebels' military campaign in Darna.
