ARETHA FRANKLIN & ADAM RAUCH have sort-of-good health news to report, though Rauch says he is not free of cancer.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Rooster Cogburn rules the roost as True Grit finally tops the chart in its third week with 15 million.  The Coens & Co. also pass the 100 million mark on a 38 million budget.  True Grit will likely be the biggest grossing Western since Dances With Wolves.  Little Fockers places with 13.8 million and will make a decent profit worldwide, though lagging its predecessors.  Season of the Witch debuted in the third slot with an estimated 10.8 million, which sorta counts as good news for a film with almost uniformly hostile reviews.  It cost 40 million, but iirc the studio sold off the foreign rights and minimized its downside.  Tron Legacy drops a hefty 48 percent to the fourth slot with 9.8 million; its domestic gross remains well below its production budget, though its worldwide gross shows it in the black.  Rounding out the Top Five is Black Swan with 8.3 million and a 61.5 million domestic gross against a 13 million budget.  Below the fold, the wide release of Country Strong managed sixth place with 7.3 million, which isn't terrible against a 15 million budget.  Awards bait like The Fighter and The King's Speech also continue to profit.

ORLANDO BLOOM & MIRANDA KERR welcomed their first child - a son - in L.A. on Thursday.

LINDSAY LOHAN & SAMANTHA RONSON reportedly declare a truce.

MAD MEL UPDATE: Gibson's lawyer went to court for an emergency hearing Friday, asking the judge to immediately strip Oksana Grigorieva of custody of baby Lucia.

THE KARDASHIANS have been sued for 75 million in debit card damages.

JANE KRAKOWSKI is knocked up.

DENISE RICHARDS & NIKKI SIXX have gone their separate ways.

ZAC EFRON & VANESSA HUDGENS: Back on?

THE KENNEDYS, an ambitious and much-anticipated miniseries about the American political family, will not air on the History channel, reportedly due to political pressure from the Kennedy family who were not comfortable with the project coming out in the year of the 50th anniversary of Camelot. It is now being shopped to Showtime.

THE BEST & WORST REVIEWED MOVIES of 2010, compiled by Metacritic.

IRAN: The chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran claimed Iran can now manufacture nuclear rods and plates at the Isfahan site. Israel's outgoing intelligence chief said Iran won't be able to build a nuclear weapon until 2015.

IRAQ: Moktada al-Sadr delivered his support on Saturday for an Iraqi state he had once derided as a traitorous tool of the United States and that his followers had battled in the streets of Iraq's most important cities only a few years before

TICKLISH CAMEL: Let's go to the video.

THE SQUIRREL THREAT: They'll take on tigers.

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE...

... with THE RASCALS!  I was delighted to find one of my fave clips, their cover of "Mickey's Monkey" in a medley with "Turn On Your Love Light."  A second live medley includes a pair of Rascals originals, "I've Been Lonely Too Long" and "Come On Up." Plus, a copy of "How Can I Be Sure?" has returned to the Tube.  Round it out with the live-instudio version of the obligatory "Good Lovin'."

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS, Live at the Brooklyn Bowl, Dec. 30, 2010.

DESTROYER: Dan Bejar talks to Crawdaddy about the upcoming Kaputt album and tour.  The title track is the first video; it's a bit racy -- and nerdy -- at that.

BILLY BRAGG: Neighbors of the singer-songwriter have received hate mail demanding they kick him out their village for being anti-British and a hypocrite living a celebrity lifestyle despite his socialist views. Bragg thinks it's the work of a disgruntled BNP member.

On the home front, Lohan now says she has no intention of moving out of her new beach pad, and plans to build a fence so new neighbor and ex-lover Sam Ronson can't spy on her.

MAD MEL UPDATE: Oksana Grigorieva has just made an explosive allegation under oath that she never before made - that Mel Gibson beat her during sex.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS talks to the Daily Beast about  Blue Valentine, Heath Ledger, the Osacrs and more...
