AVENGERS: ENDGAME shattered just about every box office record one can imagine. The House of Mouse says 350MM, but industry estimates see it higher at 354.4MM, and the opening weekend worldwide is estimated at 1.2 Billion dollahs. How big is that? The previous record was set by Infinity War at a mere 258MM. How big is that? Big enough that it eclipses what all movies made the weekend Infinity War opened. You ask me how big is it? Captain Marvel, which places with 8MM, has grossed only 1.1 Billion worldwide since opening on March 8. The Curse of La Llorona shows with7.5MM on a 75 percent drop (with a 41MM total against a 9MM budget). Breakthrough slides 44 percent to the fourth slot with 6.3MM And Shazam! rounds out the Top Five with 5.5MM on a 66 percent drop, the biggest victim of Thanos.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME, tw (for those who did not partake this weekend, is a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to this phase of the MCU. As Sonny Bunch's spoiler-free review notes, this is largely due to choosing the path of fan service over the subversion of audience expectations.
