WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Wonka was back atop the chart with 14.4MM on a 36 percent drop. Night Swim placed with 12MM.  Aquaman 2 showed with 10.6MM on a 54 percent drop.  Overall box office was down 18 percent over the opening weekend of 2023.  Below the fold, note that Anyone But You rose 9 percent and Iron Claw dropped a mere 2 percent, so some movies are inding an audience.

CHRISTIAN OLIVER, who starred in films including Speed Racer and Valkyrie among others, was killed Thursday along with his two young daughters when their small plane crashed into the sea off a Caribbean island. Oliver was 51.

DAVID SOUL, the doleful-eyed blond actor and singer who rose to fame portraying half of a cagey crime-fighting duo on the hit 1970s television show “Starsky & Hutch,” and who also scored a No. 1 hit single in 1977 with “Don’t Give Up on Us,” died on Thursday. He was 80.

CINDY MORGAN, the actor best known for playing Lacey Underall in "Caddyshack" and Lora/Yori in Disney's original "Tron" film, has died. She was 69.
