WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: A Quiet Place Part II edged out Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical In the Heights for the top spot at the weekend box office by 11.7MM to 11.4MM, a surprise in a a debut lower than a bunch of post-pandemic releases (one has to wonder about how much HBOMax is draining from these big WB pics). Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway showed with a 10.4MM debut, which was also likely a disappointment.  But A Quiet Place Part II also became the first film to pass 100MM domestic.

NED BEATTY, who made an indelible first impression in Deliverance before turning in noteworthy efforts in Nashville, Network and Homicide: Life on the Street as one of the most respected character actors of his time, has died. He was 83. BONUS: How Beatty landed his role in Network.
