DEREK SMALLS (Spinal Tap) shares his hard-fought wisdom with The Guardian.

JOHNNY MARR: A track-by-track tour of Call The Comet.

THE NUMBER ONES looks at Ray Charles' eternal "Hit The Road Jack."

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: A Quiet Place shocks its way to the top of the chart with a 50MM debut after recent tracking suggested an opning somewhere in the twenties.  It's powered by same-day sales, so word of mouth must be through the roof. It's already profitable against a 17MM budget.  Ready Player One places with 25MM, on asemi-leggy 40 percent drop, though it's the 294MM from foreign markets that are going to save it against a reported 175MM budget.  Blockers shows with 21.4MM, which probably counts as another upset debut.  Black Panther takes the fourth slot with another 8.4MM -- enough to move past Titanic to become the third-largest all-time domestic grosser (can it reach 700MM before Infinity War opens? Hmm.)  I Can Only Imagine rounds out the Top Five with 8.4MM on a leggy 20 percent drop, even more impressive for a faith-based flick post-Easter.

CHAPPAQUIDDICK, a dissection of the lethal scandal that sunk Sen.Ted Kenedy's ambiitons, is a remarkable indictment, mostly because the screenplay steers away from the more sensationalistic rumors that surrounded the event.  Jason Clarke deftly portrays as Teddy as a weak man who labors under his deserved reputation as the black shhep of the Kennedy clan. But Ed Helms and Jim Gaffigan -- chiefly known for comedic performances -- also shine here in dramatic roles as two of Ted's fixers.  Kata Mara does what she can with the role of the doomed Mary Jo Kopechne -- a smal role in terms of screen time, but one which required her to give a sense of the moral stakes.

ISLE OF DOGS is a Wes Anderson film, so if you like those, you'll like this -- an animated animal tale in the tradition of his adaptation of The Fantastic Mr. Fox.  The ending is a bit of a trainwreck, but the first two and a half acts earn enough goodwill to forgive that.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY has a new trailer online.
