SIDNEY POITIER, whose portrayal of resolute heroes in films like “To Sir With Love,” “In the Heat of the Night” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” established him as Hollywood’s first Black matinee idol and helped open the door for Black actors in the film industry, died on Thursday night at his home in Los Angeles. BOB SAGET, the standup comic and actor known as Danny Tanner on “Full House” and the host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” was found dead on Sunday in Florida. He was 65. The tributes pour in.

MARILYN BERMAN, the Oscar-winning lyricist who, with her husband, Alan, wrote "The Windmills of Your Mind," "The Way We Were" and the score for Yentl, died at 93.
