THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS broke through with this video for "Love My Way" on the MTV.

NEW RELEASES: Paste will point you to Bully, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright and more.

BILL'S INDIE BASEMENT has Protomartyr, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Beach Fossils, and more.

CYNTHIA WEIL, who with her writing partner and husband, Barry Mann, formed one of the most potent songwriting teams of the 1960s and beyond, churning out enduring hits like the Drifters’ “On Broadway” and the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’,” signature tunes of the baby boomer era, died on Thursday at her home in Beverly Hills, Calif. She was 82. Many more of the Mann/Weilits are cataloged at Stereogum.  My favorites include the Ronettes’ “Walking In The Rain,”The Monkees' "Love is Only Sleeping," and the Mama cass solo jam “Make Your Own Kind Of Music,” but there are so, so many from which to choose.

GUNS N' ROSES kicked off a world tour with some deep cuts.

ILSEY & BON IVER cover Neil Young's "Heart of Gold."

TOMMY STINSON, on the Replacements, Guns N' Roses, Puff Daddy, Steve Perry, and more.

TAYLOR SWIFT and post-concert amnesia.

CAGE THE ELEPHANT singer Matthew Shultz pleads to weapons charges to avoid jail time.

THE NUMBER ONES looks at Jason Derulo's debut single, the Imogen Heap-sampling dance-pop jam "Whatcha Say."

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings to the top of the chart with 120.5MM, which the tracking gurus didn't see coming, but shouldn't be surprising to those who were surprised by 2018's Into the Spider-Verse, a film which has only grown an audience in the years since.  The Little Mermaid places with 40.6MM on a 57 percent drop (which isn't bad, but this films problem are in overseas markets).  The Boogeyman shows with 12.3MM.  Notably, Fast X is already in the fifth slot 9.2MM and will probably be over taken in total earnings by Spidey this very week (Fast X, unlike the Mermaid and probably even Spidey, has the foreign markets disproportionately boositing its global total).

THE DIRECTORS GUILD and the studios have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract.

THE HOUSE OF MOUSE will take a 1.5B writeoff as it yanks streaming content from its services.

NATALIE PORTMAN and her ballet dancer hubby Benjamin Millepied are battling to save their marriage after she discovered that he had an affair with a 25-year-old woman.

BARBIE used enough pink paint to cause an international shortage.

TOM CRUISE is mad that Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer will be playing on so many IMAX screens.

SPIDER-MAN "4" with Tom Holland was in the works before the writers' strike.

ELLIOT PAGE's memoir sounds like a page-turner.

STAN LEE's many cameos.

A FLYING SQUIRREL faked his own death.

A TORTOISE, enjoying a shower.

A HUMMINGBIRD, feeding.
