THE CONTOURS: "Do You Love Me?"

GRIZZLY BEAR: Ed Droste swung by Turntable.fm (and Stereogum) to spin tunes and chat about the writing process, Beyoncé, why he wouldn't be on American Idol, and why fans should all be writing thank you notes to Santa Claus.

12 EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING FACTS About Popular Music. The sales facts much more depressing than the chart facts (charts in the Internet Age are no big achievement).

KATIE COURIC: Not off to an auspicious start in daytime.

YEMEN: "Now, the war against al-Qaeda is more dangerous than before."

EGYPT: Thousands of Egyptian demonstrators tore down the Stars and Stripes at the US embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and replaced it with an Islamic flag on the annniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. Hardline Islamist supporters of the Salafist movement gathered at the embassy in protest over a film deemed offensive to the Prophet Mohammed which was produced by expatriate members of Egypt's Christian minority resident in the United States. And the US embassy sided against (admittedly crude) free speech and with the Islamists.  Hours and hours later, the White House disavowed the embassy statement...anonymously.  And Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke out by name.

LIBYA? Same thing. An armed mob protesting over a film they said offended Islam, attacked the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Tuesday and set fire to the building, witnesses reported. A US official has been killed and others wounded.  This is why the US was throwing free speech under the bus in Cairo; just trying to keep the daeth toll down. Maybe a smart short-term move, but medium-term...

IRAN: The UN atomic agency has received new and significant intelligence over the past month that Iran has advanced its work on calculating the destructive power of an atomic warhead through a series of computer models that it ran sometime within the past three years.
