UKRAINE: The United States warned Russia on Wednesday against military intervention in Ukraine and said any incursion could lead to a broad international backlash.  The European Union and the West are not willing or capable of bailing out Ukraine’s economy, especially if Moscow retaliates with new punitive tariffs, higher prices for natural gas and a cutoff of significant ties to Ukrainian factories and businesses.  The lawmakers temporarily controlling Ukraine announced an interim government on Wednesday night, to a mixed reaction.  Protesters in Crimea have become the last major bastion of resistance to Ukraine's new rulers.

VENEZUELA's opposition ruled out attending a “peace conference” called by President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas following two weeks of protests that have killed 14 people.

THE UNITED KINGDOM: Two British Muslim converts who hacked British soldier Lee Rigby to death on a busy street in Woolwich last year were sentenced to prison; Michael Adebolajo was handed a life term and Michael Adebowale will be incarcerated for at least 45 years. The judge said the pair, who were removed from the courtroom during sentencing for shouting and scuffling with guards, had shown no remorse and that the "barbaric murder" had a "terrorist connection."
