THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE... ...with the wicked, wicked WILSON PICKETT, live from Germany, circa 1968. This disappeared from the Tube, but I've managed to find almost all of it reposted there or elsewhere. His band warms up the crowd with the instrumental "Soulfinger," but Pickett electrifies from the moment he enters for "Everybody Needs Somebody" and doesn't let up through "Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do)," "Mustang Sally" and "Stagger Lee." He takes it down just a half-notch for "I'm In Love" before cranking it back into top gear for "Funky Broadway," during which people dancing in front of the stage start turning up onstage (And why not? This rawks almost as hard as The Who's cover of "Shakin' All Over"). The tumultuous finale of "Land of 1000 Dances" from amid the crowd remains missing, but this other "Land of 1000 Dances" from 1966 is almost as wild, and in color to boot. Raw and riveting; if this can't put you in a weekend state of mind, probably nothing can. ERIN RAE covers Gene Clark, The Monkees, Jonathan Richman, and Scott Walker in an exceptional Lagniappe Session. DUFF McKAGAN & SHOOTER JENNINGS visit World Cafe. IGGY POP shares "Free." MIRANDA LAMBERT shares "It All Comes Out In The Wash" and "Locomotive". STEVE GUNN shares a cover of Neil Young’s “Motion Pictures (For Carrie),” just in time for the 45th anniversary of Young’s On The Beach. STEAM: The one-hit wonder with a synced take on "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye." THE REPLACEMENTS seem to be teasing something special for Tuesday. Is it... alternate mixes to Don’t Tell a Soul? TAME IMPALA's Kevin Parker is on his own timetable. PAUL McCARTNEY is turning It’s A Wonderful Life into a stage musical. BRIAN ENO: An essential guide. IOWA OFFICIAL JERRY FOXHOVEN Says His Love of Tupac Wasn't What Got Him Fired. THE NUMBER ONES ooks at America's lush "Sister Golden Hair".
THE LION KING is this weekend's sole wide release, currently scoring 56 percent on the ol' Tomatometer. TOP GUN: MAVERICK has a trailer online. IT: CHAPTER TWO has a final trailer online. JAY & SILENT BOB REBOOT has a trailer online and oh my do I feel old. CATS has a trailer online; I laughed, I cried, it was better than oh wait. BRADLEY COOPER & IRINA SHAYK reach a joint custody arrangement for their daughter. JAVIER BARDEM is in talks to play King Triton in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. QUENTIN TARANTINO talks Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Star Trek, and Bounty Law. POLICE NAB PENGUINS who keep sneaking into a sushi restaurant. SELF-CLONING SUPER-TICKS are sparking worry in some as the arachnids recently were linked with killing five cows by sucking their blood dry in North Carolina. AUSTRALIA'S COMPETITIVE RABBITS aim for new heights in international competition. SPIDER vs COCROACH: Who You Got?

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Spider-Man: Far From Home repeats atop the chart with 45.3MM on a 51 percent drp from the three-day portion of its debut. Domestically, this film sits at 275MM, wich is more than the two Andrew Garfield movies combined. Toy Story 4 places with 20.7MM on a 39 percent drop in its fourth frame; it could top out at roughly 420MM, if The Lion King remake does not stomp on it too much this upcoming weekend. The debut of Crawl shows with 12MM against a 13.5MM budget, so this well-reviewed horror flick willlikely wind up in the black. The debut of Stuber takes the fourth slot with 8MM against a reported 16MM budget, a reflection of tough days for big-screen comedies in the streaming era.
