JESSICA LEA MAYFIELD stopped by World Cafe. SNAIL MAIL shares "Pristine." SOCCER MOMMY shared a video for "Cool." THE LEMON TWIGS: Brian D'Addario talks to Brooklyn Vegan and shares two new tracks. Awww yeaaahhh. DREAM WIFE: "We're not holding back at all." STEVE ALBIMI talks to Narduar about lighting farts on fire with Nirvana, smashing toilets with Ty Segall, and much more. THE NUMBER ONES looks at Roy Orbison's tense, operatic two-minute masterpiece "Running Scared." The B-side was Love Hurts"! READY PLAYER ONE is a Steven Spielberg film adapted from a book clearly inspied byt eh peak blockbuster version of Spielberg -- and arena where Spielberg has not often played lately. And perhaps it is all of this -- or the virtual relaity where much of the action occurs -- that gives off a slight feeling of virtual Spielberginess. Or prehaps Spielberg is now at a place in his life where he cannot tap into that vintage Spielberg thing in exactly the same ways as decades ago. But he remains a master directo, and so even the virtual Spielberg is quite entertaining, and generally better than others who have tried to be virtual Spielberg (looking at you, J.J.). Obviously, it's more fun the more rooted you are in the pop culture of the 80s and early 90s, but with plenty for those who are not. COREY FELDMAN says he was attacked and stabbed in Los Angeles Tuesday night, though there now seem to be differing opinions. ROSEANNE: The sitcom returned to stunning ratings. DAWSON'S CREEK hits 20 with a cast reunion. SEAN PENN wrote a novel. He went full Penn. You never go full Penn. DONALD GLOVER denied being to busy to write a Deadpool TV series. ISLE OF DOGS, reviewed by dogs. THE THREE-BODY PROBLEM may become a billion-dollar Amazon production. QUARRELING KOALAS: Two male koalas were caught wrestling in Australia, reportedly, over a female koala just out of view. A DOGGO rescues a frozen bird. HAWKS are attacking people in Connecticut. A KANGAROO fights a golf course flag.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Pacific Rim: Uprising tops the chart with 28MM, which seems bad against a 150MM budget, unti you note that it also made 122MM in foreign markets (mostly China), following the pattern of the original. Black Panther finally drops a notch to place with 16.7MM, with 631MM total domestically, entering the Top Five of all-time, and likely to wind up third (at least until Infinity War comes out). I Can Only Imagine shows with 13.8MM on a leggy 19 percent drop; the faith-based flick now totals 38MM against a 7MM budget. Sherlock Gnomes opened in the fourth slot with 10.6MM, which is probably a disappointment against a 59MM budget. Tomb Raider rounds out the Top Five with 10.4MM on a 56 percent drop in its second frame... but foreign grosses may bail it out. DONALD GLOVER and FX are dropping an animated comedy series based on Marvel’s Deadpool. RUSEELL SIMMONS is sued for allegedly threatening a woman and her son. CLAIRE FOY addresses the gender pay gap on The Crown. RICK & MORTY: Season 4 is tied up in contract negotiations. PARIS HILTON lost her 2MM engagement ring at a party; her ice turned up in an ice bucket. MEGAN FOX and BRIAN AUSTIN GREENE are still happily married, as it turns out. DAVID LYNCH, essayed by Michael Chabon.
FIONA THE HIPPO, swimming with the fishes. SEA LIONS keep eating the Northwest’s endangered fish. A CRAWFISH enjoying spring break festivities is going viral after clinging to a beer can and appearing to smoke a cigarette. THE WAY WE TREAT OUR PETS is More Paleolithic Than Medieval.

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE: ... with THE BYRDS! Pretty much because I dig them as we turn into Spring (or Fall). Let's start with a rare 1965 clip of their breakthrough smash cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man." There are screaming girls, plus go-go dancers when they hit Shivaree for "All I Really Want to Do" and "Feel A Whole Lot Better." Next up is a rare sync of "I Knew I'd Want You." There are even more dancers when they cover Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" for Shindig! on June 23, 1965, while I'm pretty sure that's Ed Wynn introducing "Chimes of Freedom." You might recognize the voice introducing "Bells Of Rhymney" from poolside in August 1965 and "It Won't Be Wrong" from a corral in January 1966 on Where The Action Is. BONUS: Want a couple in color? Here's "Turn, Turn, Turn!" and "Mr. Spaceman." DOUBLE BONUS: A rare 1967 sync of "Eight Miles High." AMEN DUNES advance streams Freedom. THE SHACKS advance stream Haze. ORQUESTA AKOKAN advance streams their self-titled LP on Dap-Tone. LANGHORNE SLIM plays Morning Becomes Eclectic. SOUL ASYLUM's near-breakthru, "Someone to Shove." OK GO have been fielding requests for years from teachers who want use their videos in their classrooms. SUNFLOWER BEAN talks to Paste about youth culture, the future of rock, and why everything isn't Spotify's fault. TINA TURNER: The making of a rock'n'roll revolutionary. YOUTUBE plans to jack up the ads to annoy people into subscribing to their streaming music service. DON'T BORE US, start with the chorus.
NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include Pacific Rim: Uprising, which is currently scoring 45 percent on the ol' Tomatometer; Sherlock Gnomes, which was not screened for critics; Midnight Sun, also not screened for critics; Unsane, which is scoring 80 percent; and Paul, Apostle of Christ, scoring33 percent. Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs begins a platform release on a couple dozen screens, scoring 93 percent. PRINCE WILLIAM & KATE are expected to welcome their third child in April. DEADPOOL 2 drops an official trailer. Language warning, but you knew that. TAYLOR SWIFT's Reputation is the only album to sell more than 2MM copies domestic in the past two years. BYRON ALLEN bought the Weather Channel. Really. WES ANDERSON films, ranked by Vulture. HOW WES ANDERSON perfected the nerd-rock soundtrack. FRANK AVRUCH, the first nationally syndicated Bozo the Clown, has died. He was 89.
A DOG is excited to run again. MONKEY ON THE LAM last seen near the King of Diamonds strip club. AUTONOMOUS ROBOT BEES, created by Walmart. What could possibly go wrong? TEACHING A DOG the Nazi salute is a hate crime in Scotland.
