WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Michael Jackson's This Is It was a semi-thriller with 21.3 million, not bad considering that having Halloween fall on a Saturday is box office poison. But Jacko did not top the receipts for the Hanna Montana concert movie, which had a much lower budget than the 60 million Sony paid for This Is It.  But 101 million so far in global sales, the soundtrack, and the DVD is paying nicely for Sony.  Paranormal Activity dropped a modest 22 percent to the second slot, jacking its total to 84.8 million.  Law Abiding Citizen took in 7.3 million, and has now made back its 50 million production budget. Couple Retreat made 6.1 million for a total of 86.6 million against a70 million budget.  Saw VI rounded out the Top Five with 5.6 million, for a 61 percent drop and a mere 22 million total (good thing Lionsgate kept the budget down to 11 million).  Below the fold, Where The Wild Things Are came in sixth, but on another big drop that makes 80 million an optimistic total.  Astro Boy also looks like a big flop.  Amelia and The Vampire's Assistant also look like flobs, though with smaller budgets.

AFGHANISTAN: Presidential challenger Abdullah Abdullah stepped aside on Sunday, leaving the field clear for Pres.
