WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Sonic the Hedgehog tops the chart with 57MM, beating out Detective Pikachu for the biggest videogame movie debut evah. Surprisingly good news for Paramount, which could use some after Gemini Man, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Rhythm Section. Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey places with 17.1MM on a 48 percent decline from an already bad opening frame.  Fantasy Island shows with 12.4MM, a bit above expectations.  The Photograph is close behind in the fourth slot with 12.3MM.  Bad Boys for Life rounds out the Top Five with another 11.3MM on a leggy 6 percent drop and looks like it will top out right around 200MM domestic.

GEORGE WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY is observed today. Here's an inaccurate and profane tribute to the first US President.
