The Paisley Underground. And Friday. |
|
Friday, November 12, 2021 - 08:00 AM Posted by: Karl
THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE: ...with THE PAISLEY UNDERGROUND! A two-part (Part 1, Part 2) feature from the Old Grey Whistle Test on L.A.'s psychedelic-flavored, West Coast scene in the mid-80s. Bands featured include the Long Ryders, Prime Movers, Thin White Rope, Pontiac Brothers and the Rain Parade with a 6 minute live version of No Easy Way Down. The Long Ryders get short shrift so I'll add in their later OGWT appearance to play "Looking For Lewis & Clark." The term "Paisley Underground" is believed to have been jokingly coined by Michael Quercio of the band The Three O'Clock, so I'll toss in the clip for "Her Head's Revolving" as a bonus. Abther band associated with the scene not featured is The Bangs, a/k/a The Bangles, with an early track, "The Real World." DOUBLE BONUS: The Guardian Music Blog has a piece on the Rain Parade and other Paisley Underground bands. HOUNDMOUTH plays World Cafe. THE WAR ON DRUGS plays WFUV Live. KNOW HOW THE BEATLES ENDED? Peter Jackson May Change Your Mind. LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM Reviews His Albums With And Without Fleetwood Mac. ADELE delves into her divorce album. GRAEME EDGE, the drummer, co-founder, and sole constant member of the English art-rock band the Moody Blues, has died at 80. THE NUMBER ONES looks at Mariah Carey's funky dance-pop jam "Someday." PAUL RUDD is People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. Sorry, Cap. ROCKY IV now nas an "Ultimate Director's Cut" and a 90-minute documentary about its making. The latter is free on YouTube. ROAD HOUSE is getting a remake? PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON on "Licorice Pizza": "I still haven't quite figured out how to talk about it yet." THE ETERNALS: Jack Kirby Runs Into the MCU Buzzsaw. SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME will be "brutal," according to Tom Holland. AARON SORKIN defends "Being The Ricardos." JIM CUMMINGS: The writer-director-star who creates people we hate ourselves for loving. TOM HANKS revealed the three of his films that he has enjoyed working on the most. SYNCHRONIZED sleeping. DOGS & CATS, living together... PARROTS, in slo-mo. A PUPPY who thinks he's a bunny.
