WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Jordan Peele's Us tops the chart with 70MM, a record opening for an original horror film, and the third best horror debut ever. It's already a big success, but it will be interesting to see how much it falls next weekend, given pent-up demand for the movie and a mere "B" CinemaScore. Captain Marvel finally slides to No. 2, placing with 35MM on a 49 percent drop that might concern Marvel if not for the fact it's already made 910MM worldwide. Wonder Park shows with 9MM on a 43 percent drop. Five Feet Apart takes the fourth slot with 8.8MM on a 34 percent drop. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World rounds out the Top Five (and likely nears exhaustion) with 6.5MM; the threequel will likely wind up a few million short of the sequel.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Captain Marvel easily repeats atop the chart with 69.3MM on a 55 percent drop; that percentage isn't uncommon for standalone origin stories in the MCU, and it's from a bigger debut than some.It could wind up grossing closer to 400MM domestic and a Billion worlwide as moviegoers gear up for Avengers: Endgame. The debut of Wonder Park places wih 16MM, a bit better than projected but still dodgy against a reported 80MM budget, though Nick is planning to make it a TV series, which may boost the home market. Five Feet Apart shows with13.1MM, again a bit better than expected and just fine against a reported 7MM budget. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World slides 36 percent to the fourth slot with 9.3MM;I'd call that drop leggy, but Tim Burton's Dumbo is coming in a couple of weeks. Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral rounds out the Top Five with 8MM; it may wind up as the second-biggest grosser in the franchise.
