THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:
... with GRAM PARSONS! As a member of both The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, and as a solo artist, Parsons anticipated the so-called country rock of the 1970s and the alt-country movement that began around 1990. There is not a lot of GP video floating around, but "Christine's Tune" is a good place to start, though the video for "Older Guys" is great because someone made them go out to christen Judge Smails' sloop. The Hell's Angels make an unfortunate cameo in the clip of "Six Days on the Road" from the infamous Altamont festival in 1969. The posthumous video for "Sin City" is nice also. BONUS: Dwight Yoakum covers "Wheels" at a Parsons tribute concert. DOUBLE BONUS: Frequent duet partner Emmylou Harris covers "Return of the Grievous Angel" with Ryan Adams (and Buddy Miller on bass) at a different tribute. HAIM visits World Cafe. CASS McCOMBS shares “I Never Dream About Trains.” OF MONSTERS & MEN shares “Ordinary Creature.” MODERN NATURE shares "Alpenglow." LAUFEY shares "Snow White." COURTING shares "the twins (1969)." EDWARD SHARPE & THE MAGNETIC ZEROS frontman Alex Ebert denies their 2009 hit “Home” is the worst song of all time. JAMES GUNN will write and direct “the next installment in the Super-Family.” SOUTH PARK's latest episode was just as provocative as the season premiere. LUCASFILM settled a lawsuit from Gina Carano, who accused the studio of discrimination and wrongful termination over her firing from The Mandalorian. THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB has a trailer online. JOHN WELLS has decades of TV hits, and has advice for Hollywood. ALICIA SILVERSTONE will reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a series based on Clueless. WILL SMITH & MICHAEL BAY: Not together again. BATMAN... and Robin? BRANDON BLACKSTOCK, a talent manager and Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, has died; he was 48. CATS & DOGS, living together... SEA LIONS swarm a couple of Orcas. WHEN A SCARECROW backfires. COWS & STEERS, living their best lives.
