THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:
...with THREE DOG NIGHT! Once again, I'm enjoying the guilty pleasure of "Eli's Coming" with fellow fans of the late, lamented SportsNight. That, along with memories of The Service's cover of "Shambala" led me to compile a few more, including "Mama Told Me Not to Come," "Joy To The World," "One," "Liar," and "Celebrate." AMYL & THE SNIFFERS plays KEXP. BLONDSHELL covers Addison Rae’s “Diet Pepsi.” BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN shares "Sunday Love." PAUL WELLER covers the Bee Gees’ “I Started a Joke.” THE PIXIES: The Band That Drew the Blueprint for Alternative Rock. SLY STONE & BRIAN WILSON: Pop Visionaries Who Retreated From A Cruel World. BRIAN WILSON: The King of Quotes. PET SOUNDS brought Badly Drawn Boy and The Fall's Mark E. Smith together. THUNDERBOLTS* seemed like a Marvel comeback with great reviews, but it's actually losing millions at the box office. Where does Marvel go next? HARVEY WEINSTEIN: The judge declared a mistrial on his rape charge after the jury foreperson refused to continue deliberations following an alleged threat by another juror. R. KELLY is asking President Trump for a pardon. ANDOR finally tops the streaming chart. PRIDE & PREJUDICE: Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike Share Behind-the-Scenes Stories. THE BLUES BROTHERS return in a graphic novel. SPACEBALLS: They're putting the band back together (sort of). KATE HUDSON & KATHRYN HAHN relive “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” TEN ICONIC BEACH BOYS Needle Drops in Film and TV. A SEAL, surfing. A BOSTON TERRIER hears the charge against him. HAKUNA MATATA, Doggos.

Brian Wilson RIP |

Thursday, June 12, 2025 - 08:00 AM Posted by: Karl

BRIAN WILSON, who as the leader and chief songwriter of the Beach Boys became rock’s poet laureate of surf-and-sun innocence, but also an embodiment of damaged genius through his struggles with mental illness and drugs, has died. He was 82. The surviving Beach Boys, Mike Love and Al Jardine, paid tribute, as did Bob Dylan, Carole King, and many more. (So many more.) Brian Wilson's ears and musical mind launched a saga that seemed to contain the whole American experience, which is one reason why the Beach Boys were for so long a musical fixture on the Fourth of July. His “teenage symphonies to God” made him the poet laureate of adolescent heartbreak. Where would American pop music be without Brian Wilson? God only knows. And while "Fun, Fun, Fun," "I Get Around," "California Girls," "Good Vibrations," "God Only Knows," and even "Little Saint Nick" remain part of our collective musical consciousness, it may be "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" that first comes to my mind when I think of Brian Wilson the man. And I think of lesser known tunes like "Let Him Run Wild," "When I Grow Up To Be A Man," "She Knows Me Too Well," "She's Not The Little Girl I Once Knew," "Here Today," and the epic "Surf's Up" as just a few of his masterful pop innovations. I count myself lucky to have seen him play on several occasions over the years. A great light has gone out; we shall not see his likes again. May he enjoy an endless Summer. THE FOLK IMPLOSION plays KEXP. SUEDE shares "Trance State." THE SICK MAN OF EUROPE shares "Profane Not Profound." GARY NUMAN shares a live version of "Intruder." THE ROLLING STONES are reportedly prepping a new album and tour. HARVEY WEINSTEIN has been convicted of one count of committing a criminal sexual act but acquitted on another in his sex crimes retrial in New York City. R. KELLY, currently serving a 30-year prison sentence, is seeking to be released from prison, claiming jail officials attempted to solicit a fellow inmate to kill him. SUPERMAN dropped a final trailer. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is tracking for a 75MM debut. JARED LETO: Industry insiders are wondering how he can sell two theatrical movies and dance around the damning claims of sexual misconduct. DISNEY AND NBC UNIVERSAL filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Midjourney, a generative AI start-up, alleging copyright infringement. it's the first major legal action of its kind. ROBERT EGGERS & WILLEM DAFOE may reteam for "A Christmas Carol?" ANDY SERKIS, on reimagining Animal Farm. TOM CRUISE: Us Weekly delves into his private life, sort of. AN ANTARCTIC SQUID spotted alive for the first time. A DOGGO assists at the counter. BABY OTTERS befriend a pupper.
